How to Pack for Rainy Weather

Things You'll Need:

  • Hooded Jackets
  • Luggage Sets
  • Socks
  • Waterproof Rain Gears
  • Windbreakers
  • Towels

  1. Step 1

    Pack one sturdy rain poncho or waterproof windbreaker with a hood and plenty of pockets.

  2. Step 2

    Include one or two plastic bags for storing wet clothes in between washings.

  3. Step 3

    Bring a pair of foldable rubber galoshes.

  4. Step 4

    Pack a dry towel in case of emergency rainstorms.

  5. Step 5

    Fold a plastic tarp and place it on the bottom of your suitcase. In extreme cases, a tarp can be used as a tent or body cover.

  6. Step 6

    Take a small, collapsible umbrella that you can tuck into a suitcase pocket.

  7. Step 7

    Take a few extra pairs of warm socks. Feet should be kept dry at all times.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your hair as dry as possible. You will lose much of your body heat through a wet head.
  • If you get wet, dry off as soon as possible to avoid body chill, colds or other problems.

on 7/5/2009 Nylon/Poly bucket hats work great. Take extra quart-sized ziplocks for your camera, wallet and cell phone. Make sure your rainwear has the seams sealed. You can pick up seam sealer at any discount chain. Gallon bags for the guide books! Your fellow travelers might look at you funny, but when the rain soaks everyone, you'll be the one smiling, while the others are moaning, "Oh, no, my Nikon is soaked!"
