How to Do a Celebrity Style Hair Weave
-
1
Choose your hair weave. Shop at a local beauty supply store and online to compare prices for natural hair extensions. Find the clip-in variety, which is very popular with celebrities like Kim Kardashian because they can be be inserted and removed at your every whim. There is no serious maintenance for these hair extensions, so the cost is not astronomical when you take into account the cost of maintenance for sewn or glued hair weave. Find a color that is identical to your own hair or within two or three shades. You will need at least eight clip-in extensions and more (12 to 15) if you want to add serious volume to hair.

Gather the other tools you will need. Keep everything you'll need nearby before you start. This includes the clip-in extensions, a fine-tooth comb, hair clips and stylist's scissors, which are small, sharp scissors meant for cutting human hair. Enlist the help of a friend if you can, as it's best to have someone else apply hair clips to the back of your head if it's your first time doing it. Practice makes perfect with inserting and removing clip-in hair extensions, so take your time learning to do this correctly.

Section off hair. Use the fine-tooth comb to section off hair before applying clip-in hair extensions. You want to start with clean, dry hair. Secure each section with a hair clip to keep it up and out of the way while you apply the extensions. Section the crown off into two sections and each side of the head into two sections. The back can also be split into two sections, resulting in eight sections total. Take your time sectioning off hair, so there's a clean, straight line to apply the clip-in hair extension.

Apply hair extensions. Start at the bottom and work your way up when applying clip-in hair extensions. This allows you to move freely and not worry about work that's already been done, since it's at the bottom. Start at the back. Take the section of hair down that rests on or closest to your neck. Open the clip-in hair extension so the teeth are facing away from you. Insert the clip-in hair extension, pushing it as close to the root as you can and clamp it shut. Give the hair a slight pull to be sure it's secure. Remove the clip from the section of hair above the completed hair, and comb over to mask the clipped-in section.

Repeat Step 4 over your entire head. Remember for each clip-in hair extension, you must section off the hair above it to cover the completed portion of hair. This is what makes a celebrity hair weave appear so flawless.

Cut extensions. This can be done by a friend or a professional stylist. The object is to cut the extensions so they blend with your natural hair, but also add substantial length for the dramatic feel that celebrity hair has. Cut at an angle for the most natural results. You may also want to dampen hair with a spritz from a water bottle, so it is easier to cut.

Tips & Warnings
Cutting clip-in extensions must be done after they are in your hair for the most natural look and to get the desired length. Most extensions have some wave to them, so it is not imperative you have a professional hair stylist to cut them, but you do want to use stylist's scissors, which will give a clean cut.
