Gmail is a popular online email application from Google. If you've had an email address ending in "gmail.com" and no longer need or want to use it, follow the steps below to delete a gmail address.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Google account name and password
  1. Step 1

Open a Web browser and go to Gmail at http://mail.google.com. Your user name is your Gmail address without the @gmail.com. Enter your user name and password to sign in to Gmail.

  2. Step 2

Select "Settings" from the options at the top right of the Gmail page. This will take you to the Settings page with several tabs across the top. Select "Accounts."

  3. Step 3

Scroll down the Accounts page until you see the section for Google Account Settings. There is a highlighted link for "Google account settings." When you select the link, another page or tab will open with your Google Accounts information.

  4. Step 4

On the Google Accounts page there is an "edit" link next to the My Products heading. Select that link.

  5. Step 5

On the edit page of your Google account, you can either "Remove Gmail permanently" or "Close account and delete all services and info associated with it." If you have other services with Google under your user name, select "Remove Gmail permanently." Otherwise, elect to delete the entire account.

  6. Step 6

On the delete account screen, check the required boxes, enter your password and click the "Remove Gmail" or "Delete account" button. Your account is now permanently deleted.

Tips & Warnings
  • Another option is to open another Gmail account and pull all the mail from the old account into the new using the settings page.
  • Deleting a Gmail account permanently deletes all mail and history. The user name can never be used again.
