AMSOIL is a synthetic motor oil used in vehicles, and was the world's first synthetic motor oil to meet the American Petroleum Institute standards. Synthetic motor oil is man-made and is a superior lubricant to natural motor oil. Synthetic oil reduces friction and wear on engine parts, functions in extreme hot and cold temperatures, and lasts longer than conventional oil. Although synthetic is more expensive than regular motor oil, it can last twice as long.

Things You'll Need:

  • Funnel
  1. Step 1

Decide if your vehicle is a good candidate for synthetic oil if your vehicle does not already use it. You should not switch high mileage vehicles to synthetic oil before consulting a mechanic. Do not switch to synthetic oil before going on a long trip in case your vehicle reacts to a change in motor oil.

  2. Step 2

Drain all old oil out of your vehicle through the drain plug at the bottom of the oil tank or by suctioning out the oil under the hood. This is the first step in an oil change.

  3. Step 3

Put a funnel in the oil tank in the same hole where the dipstick is inserted.

  4. Step 4

Pour the correct amount of AMSOIL into the funnel. Consult your owner's manual to find out how much oil your vehicle holds. You can also estimate how much oil you need to pour by measuring the amount of oil you drained out of the tank. Avoid pouring too much oil in the tank.

  5. Step 5

Put the dipstick back in the tank and pull it out to make sure you poured the correct amount of oil. The oil should reach the marked line at the bottom of the dipstick.
