Designing your own postage stamps from personal photographs or self-generated artwork is relatively simple. With online programs and special software, you can create themed postage stamps for the holidays or show off your family vacation photos to friends and loved ones.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8-by-10-inch sheets of sticky printer paper
  • Scissors
  • Credit card or PayPal account
  1. Step 1

Go through your photos or artwork and decide which image you want to turn into a stamp. Consider an appropriately themed stamp, like a family Christmas photo for holiday cards. Consider the composition of the artwork and whether it will still look clear when reduced down to postage-stamp size.

  2. Step 2

Scan your photograph or artwork and save it on your computer as a .jpg or .bmp file.

  3. Step 3

Browse through online sites that offer to create stamps from your personal images. USPS recommends using sites like PhotoStamps, PictureitPostage.com, Zazzle.com and Stamps.com. Look through each site and choose the one that best suits your postage needs. Create a user account.

  4. Step 4

Browse through the website to determine the number of stamps that best suits your needs. Choose your postage by the required denomination, such as the current standard USPS rate.

  5. Step 5

Upload your photograph or artwork file to the website. Customize the image using the site's tools. Choose the appropriate size and angle of your image, as well as the background and outline color. You may also be able to add a custom message to your image.

  6. Step 6

When you are satisfied with your design's alignment inside the predetermined stamp frame, pay for your postage using your credit card or PayPal account.

  7. Step 7

Print out your custom-designed stamps. If you are not able to print them yourself, you may have them mailed to you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure all images created for personalized stamps are appropriate and adhere to the law. For example, you would not want to use a nude photograph for your postage stamp design.
