How to Change Your AIM Icon

Instant messaging is becoming the gold standard of Internet communication. With the delayed responses of email, instant messaging is a great way to keep in touch with your friends. One way to customize your profile is to add an AIM buddy icon. This will give your screen name a personal touch that you can show off to all your friends. Use a picture that you already have saved or browse through hundreds of images in the AIM Expressions library.

Instructions

1. Load AOL Instant Messenger and enter in your screen name and password. Click "Sign In."

2. Click "Edit" on the top tool bar above your buddy list. Scroll down through the menu and select "Settings."

3. Click "Expressions" between "Buddy List" and "Sounds" on the left-side window. Click "Browse" under the preview of your current icon and search for an icon that you have saved on your computer. Click "Open" to apply your icon.

4. Click "My Expressions." You will be taken to the Expressions website (see Resources). Browse for an image that you want and click "Apply Now" to select a stock image as your AIM icon.

Tips & Warnings

• The maximum size allowed for a buddy icon is 7,168 bytes, so you may need to crop an image to fit.
