How to Make Indoor Cat Repellents

Unlike dogs, who can fairly easily be trained to remain on the floor, fiercely independent felines nearly always refuse to stop reclining on whichever piece of furniture is most attractive at the time. If your cat will not be trained--or is trying to train you to stay out of his favorite chair--an indoor cat repellent may do the trick. This blend of natural ingredients can be sprayed on anything you want to keep your cat away from.

Things You'll Need

• 32 oz. spray bottle
• Distilled water
• Orange oil
• Eucalyptus oil

Instructions

1. Fill a spray bottle with water with approximately one quart of distilled water.

2. Add 20 drops of eucalyptus oil. Swirl the water in the bottle gently to mix the oil into the water.

3. Add 20 drops of orange oil and swirl again.

4. Screw the lid onto the spray bottle and shake several times. Since oil and water do not fully mix, you will need to shake the contents each time you use the spray.

5. Hold the spray bottle at least 18 inches from the furniture you want to keep your cat away from. Mist the area well.

Tips & Warnings

• Some people add a tablespoon of cayenne pepper to this mix. However, others argue that this can make a cat seriously ill. Consult your veterinarian before adding pepper, Tabasco or any other spicy repellents to an indoor spray.
