Power washers are universal tools. You can use them to quickly and easily clean driveways, decks, houses and boats. Power washers are also durable tools that do not require much maintenance. Occasionally, you will need to clean your power washer, usually because the nozzle has become clogged or because you let water sit in it for too long.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Needle
  • Water
  • Vinegar
  1. Step 1

If the power washer needs cleaning because you left water in it too long (6 months or longer), then you are probably noticing a mildew smell from the water. The easiest fix is to empty the water, and then refill it with new water. You want to run the new water completely through the tank until it is empty. Refill the power washer with new water and begin using it for your project.

  2. Step 2

If the odor persists, then mix up a solution of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water and place that in the power washer. Let the solution sit overnight, and then drain it out of the power washer. You can also use bleach instead of vinegar.

  3. Step 3

If the power washer needs cleaning because the nozzle is clogged, then you have to clear it of debris. Try turning your power washer on the highest setting and letting it spray for a moment or two. If that does not work, examine the nozzle to see if there is any visible paint or debris on it. If there is external debris, remove it. Finally, take a sewing needle and gently place it into the center of the nozzle where the water comes out.

Tips & Warnings
  • If water still does not come out of the nozzle after cleaning, you may need to replace it. Nozzles are available at most home improvement stores.
