GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores are usually required for entrance to graduate school. There are two types of GRE tests, the general test and subject tests. All the exams can cause testing anxiety, but there are some ways to ease this anxiety.

From Quick Guide: GRE Test Basics
Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn as much about the GRE as you can. Find out the dates of the tests, the closest testing center to your home and how much it will cost to take the GRE. Find out how the exam is scored and what types of questions it will ask. Having these questions answered ahead of time will help ease your mind. When you register for the GRE, you will have access to downloadable practice tests and answers for both the general exam and the subject exam.

  2. Step 2

Register for your exam. Students can register online through the GRE website, through the phone or through the mail.

  3. Step 3

Practice for the GRE tests using the materials from the GRE website. The general test consists of a writing section and a multiple-choice section. The subject GRE exams consist of multiple-choice questions only. GRE subjects include biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, literature, math, physics and psychology.

  4. Step 4

Get plenty of rest the night before taking the GRE. You will want your mind to be clear and ready for the exam.

  5. Step 5

Once you have started the exam, read each question carefully. Guessing will not necessarily improve your score. Questions with no answer marked will not be scored. Mark answers down as you come to them. Some people have been known to save their answers to write them down at the end of the exam, only to run out of time.
