How to Drain The Water On Your Pool Cover
What I hate the most about opening my above ground pool is getting the cover off. It is always full of dirty water, leaves, branches and other things. It is pretty nasty by the spring.
I have tried to use a bucket to scoop the water off and I have tried to rush and pull it over the side of the pool only to have it open and all the muck and dirt go into the pool - which is not what you want to happen. This gives you tons of more work to do.
Here is what I did this past spring - hope it helps you with draining the water off your pool cover too.

First I try to get as much of the liquid off the pool cover. To do this I syphon it off.
Take your water hose and insert one end into the water on your pool cover. Make sure most of the hose is in the water and that it has water in it too.

2
Bring the other end of the water hose to where you want the water to come out. Usually this is on the side of your property.

3
Put your mouth on the end of this side and suck in sharply a few times. Then place the hose down on the ground. The water should start coming out.

4
This is not the quickest method but it works. No need to buy a pump. Once the water gets down low enough you can use a skimmer start scooping out the muck and leaves. Once you get more of this stuff out the hose can finish with the water.

5
Once you get it down low it might stop sucking up the water so you will want to get a few people to help take the cover off and walk it over to one side. Be careful not to let it go or whatever is left over will fall into the pool water.
-
6
you can secure it and let the hose start working again or you can use a bucket to help get the rest of the water and debris off.

Once it gets low enough you can use a few people and pull it over the side of the pool.
Lay the pool cover on the ground and hose it off. Let it dry in the sun.
Then fold it and store it until you need it again in the fall.

Tips & Warnings
Do not rush or you will end up with all the muck in your pool water. Then it is harder to clean.
Make sure you ask friends and family to help you. It is not a one person job.
Be prepared to get wet and dirty - but nothing a hot shower cannot fix
