Co-host Vanna White of "Wheel of Fortune" ...the show gets its contestants through regional try-outs.

Game shows are always looking for contestants, though each show has its own way of screening the thousands of applicants. Some shows have mini-tournaments or tests a contestant must pass before they get an invitation, and others pick people based on their enthusiasm.

Things You'll Need

  • complete a game show contestant application
  • research on popular game shows and their qualifications
  • prepare ways to get noticed as a prospective game show contestant

Instructions

    • 1

Check the website of each show for its qualification process and eligibility requirements. "Wheel of Fortune," for example, holds a "Wheelmobile" event in different cities when it wants to build up a file of contestants. Would-be contestants show up at a bus and must pass some tests to get invited to the real show. "Survivor" requires an audition tape, but also holds some regional casting calls where producers can meet potential contestants face-to-face.

    • 2

Fill out the application for the game show online if one is offered. Follow the rules carefully since the first applications rejected are those that do not follow directions.

    • 3

Be personable and energetic in your interviews since many game shows book contestants based on how well they translate to TV. This is especially true of non-scripted reality game shows like "Survivor" and shows like "The Price is Right" that don't rely on book knowledge.

    • 4

Study if you plan to get on a show like "Jeopardy!" that does reward book knowledge. That show has an online test registration all hopefuls must complete before an application is accepted.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most game shows only have auditions, tryouts or accept applications for a few months out of the year. That's enough time for them to build a database of possible contestants to cover the taping schedule. Sign up for any update alerts at the websites.

  • To get on a game show, never chew gum, curse or say disparaging statements about the game show host to other contestants or the game show producers.
