Things You'll Need:
- Any lawn mower
- String trimmer
- Blower or broom
-
Step 1
Start the mower. Mow around the edge of the yard you are going to cut.
-
Step 2
After going all the way around the edge of the yard, pick which direction you want your stripes to go. If you want to follow a straight edge of the lawn, start along that edge. If you want to mow diagonally or try a curved pattern start somewhere in the middle.
-
Step 3
Mow back and forth in straight lines, with the mower going forward at all times. Overlap slightly on each stripe in order to keep from missing some grass. When done with this part, your lawn should look striped, similar to a baseball field. Sometimes it takes some experience to make your lines perfectly straight.
-
Step 4
Once all of the grass has been mowed, go around the edge of the yard and string-trim all of the grass down to the same height. Don't forget to go around trees, bushes, and whatever else may be in your yard.
-
Step 5
For the final step, take the blower or broom and push all of the excess grass on the driveway or sidewalk back up into the lawn. Check the lawn for small clumps of grass and spread those around if necessary.
