Things You'll Need:
- 4x6 inch blank note cards
- matching envelopes
- pen
-
Step 1
Choose your stationery and buy in sufficient quantity to cover your gift list. Simple, unfolded note cards with matching envelopes are always a good choice. Choose larger (5x7 inch) note cards if your writing tends to be on the large side; 4x6 inch note cards will probably be fine for most types of script. Try to write in a way that will cover the majority of the front side of the card.

Step 2
Begin the thank you note with the classic salutation for a letter.
"Dear Aunt Mary," -
Step 3
The first sentence is a direct mention of the gift you received and need not vary widely among your notes.
"Thank you so much for the XXX." -
Step 4
The second sentence should make a statement about the gift, how you will use (or spend) it, or simply the state fact that you love it. If you're at a loss, express that the gift will "make a wonderful addition" to your book collection/kitchen/new home/dorm room.
"The tablecloth will look lovely in our new dining room."
"We plan to spend it to buy items for our new kitchen."
"The color is perfect with our decor."
"We both love it." -
Step 5
Lastly, add a comment about the gift-giver and how kind/generous they were to think of you.
"It was so kind/thoughtful/generous/sweet of you to remember me/us in this special/thoughtful/generous way." -
Step 6
If you like, you can add an optional sentence with a wish, greeting, or exchange of information:
"Let's get together when you are in town."
"Hope to see all of you next summer."
"The honeymoon was wonderful, and we're settling in to our new home." -
Step 7
Close the thank you note appropriately. The choice of closing is up to you. Some common letter closings include:
"Regards,"
"Best regards,"
"Sincerely,"
"Your niece,"
