over 100 years ago, there was a bird called a Snipe. Today, most species of them are extinct. There are only a few species left today and they are endangered and you will probably never see one in your entire life.
People used to hunt these birds with a muzzle loader rifle a long time ago. When people hunted them, they had to hide really well and they only got "One Shot One Kill" with their rifles. If they missed, the birds flew away and would not come back for a long time.
A person who hunted Snipe was referred to as a "SNIPER". And yes, that is where that word came from.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gullible friends.
  • A bag.
  • A woods or forest.
  1. Step 1

This is a game that works well with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Or whomever you can find that is willing to go on a snipe hunt.
Go on a camping trip with your friends.
Tell them that you want to go Snipe hunting. Explain how you do it. Tell them that you will give them a bag to catch the Snipe in. You will go into the bushes and scare the animals out so your buds can catch them in the bag.

  2. Step 2

Go put on your camouflage. Tell your buddies that you need to be able to hide from the snipe. Because if they see you, they will run or fly away. The camo is really so that you can hide from your friends.
Explain what the snipe look like to your friends. Tell them what ever you want for what they look like.
Say that snipe are harmless so your friends will not be scared of them.
Explain that you will go scare the snipe out of the bushes and your friends are supposed to catch them in the bag.

  3. Step 3

Have your friends wait outside of the bushes and you go in and make a little noise for a minute or so. Then you hide and tell your friends to wait and be quiet. Tell them the snipe are going to be running out any minute.
Now you very quietly crawl out of the other side of the bushes and walk back to camp.

  4. Step 4

When you get back to camp, just sit back and wait. If you can still hear them, listen in on what your friends are saying to each other.
Just wait and see how long it takes for them to figure out that they have been "Left Holding The Bag" (BTW. That is where that expression came from).

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure there are not any real, dangerous animals in the bushes before you run in them.
