While Microsoft has done a good job of providing backwards compatibility to it's Office users, there may still come a time when you absolutely need more than one version of Office on your computer. This article will show you how to install multiple versions of Microsoft Office on one computer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Copy of Both Versions of Microsoft Office You Wish to Install
  1. Step 1

Determine the versions of Microsoft Office you need.

  2. Step 2

Plan your installation order. Microsoft recommends that you install Office from oldest to newest when running multiple versions. Start with Office version 4.2 and work your way to Office XP.

  3. Step 3

Note any conflicts with Outlook. Microsoft Outlook 2002 cannot run on the same computer as an older version of Outlook. This may affect your installation plans.

  4. Step 4

Install your oldest version of Microsoft Office. Follow the setup for Office and reboot when required. Rename the Start Menu shortcuts to include the version of Office they are for. Example, Microsoft Word 95, Microsoft Excel XP, etc.

  5. Step 5

Install the next version of Microsoft Office in your installation plan. Follow the setup for Office and reboot when required.

  6. Step 6

Repeat Step 5 until all versions of Microsoft Office are installed. You should now have a Start Menu shortcut for each Office product for each version of Microsoft Office you installed.

Tips & Warnings
