Magic the Gathering is a game in which players duel for control with customized decks. Red aggro is one particular deck style that is available to contestants. It emphasizes the speed and aggression that is to be expected from the color of fire. It is relatively straightforward as it contains just three main components: land, burn and creatures. Read on to learn how to build such a deck for Magic the Gathering.

Things You'll Need:

  • Land
  • Burn
  • Cheap creatures
  1. Step 1

Add land. Mountains and other non basic Magic the Gathering lands can provide red mana. Depending on the cost of your spells, the number of recommended lands will differ. For a quicker style such as this, I would prefer to start with about twenty.

  2. Step 2

Put in some burn. These are the cards that are going to do direct damage to the enemy or opposing creatures. Try putting in about 24 of these at first. After playing a few games you will get a better sense of how many of this type of spell you want to use. Much of it is dependent on what kind of decks other players are using.

  3. Step 3

Fill it out with creatures. Put in as many creatures as necessary until you have sixty cards overall. Since this style emphasizes speed, look for creatures that have low casting costs such as goblins. The haste ability is especially useful.

  4. Step 4

Make adjustments. Play your aggressive red deck a few times, adding and removing Magic the Gathering spells as you feel necessary. There are several ways to customize it even further: try adding a color (anything other than blue) or using acceleration (stuff that can help you play spells more quickly)

on 11/7/2009 My husband just recently made me play this game. He happened to give me the red deck and I think green. I still don't totally get it, but this article is helpful.
