How to Brainstorm for New Topics to Write About on eHow

In your eHow writing ventures, you may come across times when you feel like you’ve “hit a wall” in coming up with new topics to write about. Writer’s block can happen to the best of us, and sometimes all it takes to snap ourselves out of it is a departure from our normal routine, and a willingness to expand our horizons as far as what type of topics we can write about. This article will provide some helpful tips on how to brainstorm for new topics to write about on eHow.

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer with Internet access
  1. Step 1

Check out some similar websites such as WikiHow and Expert Village, and explore the different categories that they offer. Sometimes just looking at the various category headings can spark a whole new series of how-to ideas. Please note that I’m not advocating plagiarism, but I am saying that you can look at other “how-to” articles to provide inspiration and an impetus to expand on certain topics that you see covered in those articles.

  2. Step 2

Google is one of the best brainstorming tools out there. If you visit Google.com and simply type in the words “how to”, Google will automatically prompt you with certain phrases that people have used in actual searches (I believe it’s called “Search Assist” or “Google Suggest”, but I’m not 100% sure). These phrases will appear below the search box where you type in “how to”, and they will change based on what letter you type in after you type “how to”. For instance, you could type an “a” after “how to” and it would give you an entirely different list of how-to search terms than if you typed in a “d”.

  3. Step 3

YouTube is another great place to get how-to ideas. Again, just type in “how to” in the search box and then type a letter of the alphabet, you will begin to see all kinds of phrases pop up automatically.

Tips & Warnings
  • With just the three steps mentioned above, you should be well on your way to receiving all kinds of inspiring how-to ideas.
  • Remember that you have to make each article your own; plagiarism is not the way to go, and if you get caught plagiarizing on eHow, you could jeopardize your entire account, and forfeit your earnings. That would be most unfortunate.
