How to Remove a Deodorant Stain from Silk

Silk is an especially delicate fabric to deal with when it comes to removing certain types of stains. If you follow the proceeding steps and tips, and act immediately, you can become successful when trying to eradicate this sort of stain from any silk material.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Rubbing alcohol
• Fabric spot cleaner
• Absorbent pad
• Clear water
• Warm sudsy water
• Ammonia
• White vinegar

1. Test your silk fabric for colorfastness before proceeding. If the fabric passes the colorfast test, apply rubbing alcohol to the stain and blot the area with an absorbent pad that has been moistened with rubbing alcohol and two parts water. (If your fabric does not pass the colorfastness test, spray on a fabric spot cleaner and follow the directions on the label of the spot cleaner you're using.)

2. If the stain remains after completion of the above step, then flush the stained area with a mixture of warm sudsy water to which a little ammonia has been added. Apply special care.

3. Rinse the area with clear water.

4. Apply some warm water to which a small amount of white vinegar has been added.

5. Rinse again with clear water.

6. Allow the area to dry completely.

Tips & Warnings

• If, after the area is dry, the color is different or changed, the hue of the fabric may be restored with a mixture of one part ammonia added to two parts water applied with a sponge.
