New DVDs and new CDs are expensive so just because your DVDs and CDs are scratched and do not work properly does not mean that you have to throw them away and go buy more. This article will give you the instructions on how you can repair scratched DVDs and CDs with some simple household ingredients that work and can save you a ton of money on DVDs and CDs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First, take a clean soft cloth or rag and soak it in rubbing alcohol and completely wipe down the scratched DVD or CD very thoroughly. Use the alcohol soaked rag in small circular motions so the alcohol can get into the scratches very well.

  2. Step 2

Next, take another dry soft cloth or rag and wipe down the DVD or CD, removing the rubbing alcohol. Be sure to wipe the rubbing alcohol completely off of the DVD or CD.

  3. Step 3

Next, Take a tube of tooth paste and squirt four small dabs of tooth paste all the way around the DVD or CD.

  4. Step 4

Next, take a clean Q-Tip and start rubbing the tooth paste into the scratched DVD or CD in small circular motions. Completely rub the tooth paste all over the DVD or CD very well and let the tooth paste dry on the DVD or CD for about five to ten minutes.

  5. Step 5

Lastly, once the tooth paste has dried on the DVD or CD, take a clean soft cloth or rage and wipe away the tooth paste from the DVD or CD using small circular motions. Just like removing car wax from a car. Completely wipe away all of the toothpaste from the DVD or CD and buff the DVD or CD clean. Now you should have a perfectly repaired DVD or CD.

Tips & Warnings
  • The rubbing alcohol removes any small microscopic debris from the DVD or CD scratch and evens out the scratch and the tooth paste fills in the scratch and when dried and buffed it leaves a thin layer that hardens to the DVD or CD to even the scratch with the DVD or CD surface.
