When you signed up for Hotmail, you were asked to create a Windows Live ID. With this ID, you are able to not only access the mail service, but also Windows Live Messenger and even X Box Live. However, if you have had your Hotmail name for a while, you may need to update and change it to a different email address or an improved user name. Changing your Hotmail name will allow you to personalize your email account.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the Passport website (see Resources) and click "Windows Live ID" in the middle of the first paragraph on the screen.

  2. Step 2

Choose either to sign up for a free MSN Hotmail account or use an email address that you already have. If you already have a Windows Live ID and want to change it, then do not sign up for another account because your information is already saved.

  3. Step 3

Click "Get Started Now." Enter your new email address and password into the spaces provided. Type in your password security question and enter the characters that you see in the picture into the space provided.

  4. Step 4

Click continue and enter your new email address once more. Read over the user agreement and click "I Accept."

  5. Step 5

Click "Continue" to exit the Passport site. Enter your new information at Windows Live.
