How to Make a Mocha Pound Cake
The pound cake was created in the 1700s and got its name from the fact that a pound of each ingredient was needed to make the cake. Pound cakes today are typically made with a lighter amount of ingredients. A delicious way to make your pound cake is to add coffee and chocolate to create a mocha dessert. Things You'll Need
- 9x5-inch baking pan
- Saucepan
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 2 cups cake flour
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 tbs. instant coffee
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 eggs
- 2 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Beat the shortening until it becomes creamy.

Melt the chocolate on low heat in your saucepan. Brew the coffee to make 1 tablespoon of strong coffee for your cake.

Stir the flour, sugar, coffee, salt, cream of tartar and baking soda into the shortening.

Add the water and vanilla to your mixture. Mix until your batter is well blended and smooth.

Beat your eggs and melted chocolate into the mix.

Pour your batter into your baking pan and bake for one hour, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool your mocha pound cake before serving.
