In order to trace a telephone number in the UK, you must hire a private investigator. However, by following a few simple steps, you can find out the telephone number of the last person who called you.

Things You'll Need

• BT landline phone
• Pen
• Paper

Instructions

1. Pick up the phone and dial "1471" to find out the number of the last person who called you. There's no charge, and you are not required to sign up in advance.

2. Write down the number of the last person who called you if you want to keep it but do not want to call back right away.

3. Press "3" if you decide to call that number back. There is a charge of 9.79p for this call return feature. You will be charged even if the call does not connect.

Tips & Warnings

• 1471 cannot announce the number if it has been withheld or if the call came from a switchboard extension.
