Things You'll Need:

    Replacing an Old Light

  1. Step 1

Go to circuit breaker, and turn off power to the light.

  2. Step 2

    Take down the old fixture.

  3. Step 3

Notice the box on the ceiling that has three wires. White (neutral), black (hot) and green (ground). Take your new fixture, and attach the white to white, black to black and green to green. Put wire nuts on each of the connected wires, and place a small piece of tape around each wire nut.

  4. Step 4

Tuck all the wires into the box, and secure the light fixture to the box. This is done by putting the screws through the new fixture base and securing them to the box.

  5. Step 5

Attach the bulbs to the fixture.

  6. Step 6

    Put on the fixture cover.

  7. Step 7

    Turn on the power.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the light fixture is long, in addition to anchoring it to the box, you might have to put drywall anchors in at the ends.
  • Make sure the power is always off when working with electricity.
