Instructions

  1. Making a basic sandbag

    • 1

Cut fabric approximately 24 inches by 30 inches. This does not have to be an exact measurement. It works best to cut a dozen or more at a time and then stitch them up at the same time.

    • 2

Lay the fabric on a flat surface, printed side up (if it has a pattern). Fold in half so that you have a square 12 inches by 15 inches. Fold all of the fabric that you cut in Step 1 the same way and stack the pieces for sewing.

    • 3

Stitch one short side and the long side with a tight stitch, at least 12 stitches per inch. The tight stitch makes the bag stronger.

    • 4

Turn all of the bags so that the printed side is out and lay them flat to be stored for emergency use. Cut the twine in 24-inch lengths and store the bags and twine together.

    • 5

Fill the bags with sand or gravel when needed for emergency and tie the top securely.

Tips & Warnings

  • This size bag will be strong enough to handle the amount of sand needed to fill them.

  • Don't fill the bag to the top or you won't have enough of the end of the bag to tie twine around.
