Things You'll Need:
- Heavy duty carpet needle
- Heavy duty carpet thread
- Carpet samples
- Double faced tape
- or
- Carpet tape
-
Step 1
Purchase carpet samples at a flooring store.
If rubber backed rugs are not available and you have a hardwood, vinyl or tile flooring then you might consider using a double faced tape for the finished product. -
Step 2
Choose your colors and lay them out in the pattern you like the best.
Lay them flat on the floor side by side and start in one corner and work your way across to the other edge.
Thread your needle with the carpet thread and sew one carpet to the next and continue on until you have completed every square. Sew these together similar to the way each of the sample pieces edges are bound.
If using several different shades of carpet and you have elected not to match each shade with your carpet thread then choose 1 color of thread for the entire project. -
Step 3
Clean the floor thoroughly with a broom, mop and mild cleaner or a damp towel with a floor cleaner.
Let the floor dry completely.
Measure and roll out the double faced tape or a carpet tape.
Remove the paper from one side of the tape and press the tape firmly against the carpet, continue removing paper and pressing the tape down all the way across.
Do this on all sides and put a small amount in the center.
Pull the backing off of the tape slowly so that it doesn't lift the tape.
Carefully turn the rug over and place it. At least 2 people should place this rug.

on 7/17/2009 Great idea on how to make a Patch Rug. This would be great in a kids room and sounds fairly easy to make. 5* and Rec'd.
