Things You'll Need:
- drum sander (rent)
- disc edge sander (rent)
- googles
- earplugs
- dust mask
- broom
- vacuum cleaner
- tack cloth
- polyurethane
- wood filler

Step 1
Go to a hardware rental store and rent a drum sander and a disc edge sander. They may even recommend using a jitterbug sander which may be better if this is your first time refinishing your hardwood floors.

Step 2
Now, take everything out of the room and open up the windows and doors for venilation. Sweep or vacucm the floor.

Put on your protection for your eyes, ears and nose. Next, using the sander, gently begin sanding with it taking your time not to danage the hardwood. Make sure to sand with the grain of the wood. Continue until the entire room is done.

Step 4
Next, use the edge sander in the corners where the disc sander did not fit.

Next, sweep or vacuum the floor throughly. Then using a tack cloth, pick up any remaining debris.

Step 6
Using paste wood filler, apply it with the grain of the hardwood. Once it has set, wipe it away and let it dry overnight.

Step 7
The next day, apply three coats of polyurethane finish with a brush. Sand it between coats using a tack cloth to pick up any dust between coats. Please before sure to follow the directions on the can. Let the polyurethane dry before putting furniture back into the room.
