If you have an ant problem but don't want to use dangerous insecticides and poison traps, use this safe and effective method to keep ants from coming in.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Find where the ants are coming inside. Check for cracks and holes in your walls, window sills, and floors. Once you find their entrance point, you are ready to create your anti-ant solution.

  2. Step 2

Make a 60/40 mixture of water and peppermint oil, respectively. In other words, this means for every three parts water, add two parts peppermint oil. Mix thoroughly (do not shake) and empty it into a plastic spray bottle.

  3. Step 3

Set the spray bottle to the "mist" setting and spray over the places you found the ants liked to hang out. You can also spray around the door frames leading outside to keep them from coming in under the door. This works for about a month or two.

  4. Step 4

Keep in mind that this will not kill the ants, and it will not fix the underlying problems (cracks, holes, etc) that allow them access to your home in the first place. Fill in any holes or cracks if possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a severe infestation, you may not be able to rid your home of the ants without chemicals. Call an exterminator if things get out of hand.
