If you are going to be hosting a Halloween party for children this year, take some time to plan food, drinks, and activities that will ensure kids of all ages have a frighteningly fun time!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • For Worms in Dirt: clear plastic cups, orange or green Jello, gummy worms and crumbled Oreo cookies
  • a filled Halloween-themed pinata
  • for Spider Pops: black pipe cleaners, round lollipops, googly eyes and some glue.
  • for punch: gallon orange juice, 2 liter sprite, half gallon orange, green or rainbow sherbet
  • small pumpkins and non-toxic, washable paint
  1. Step 1

Choose a date and time for the party- avoid Halloween night, as most kids have neighborhood trick-or-treating plans that evening. Send invitations either by using evite.com, purchasing blank printable invitations from a craft store, or traditional invitations from a Hallmark or other stationery store.

  2. Step 2

Select food for the party. You make a simple Halloween Chex Mix using Chex cereal, raisins, candy corn, small marshmallows, chocolate chips, small pretzels, etc. Most kids won't sit down and eat an entire meal at the party, so offer 'grazing' food like veggies and dip, fresh fruit, etc. For dessert, create "Worms in Dirt" using clear plastic cups. Refrigerate orange, green or purple Jello right in the cups- place a gummy worm in the bottom of the cup before refrigerating. When the Jello sets, place a layer of crumbled Oreo cookies on the top and place a few gummy worms 'crawling' out of the 'dirt.' Kids love this easy Halloween party treat! You can even add a (dollop of whipped cream) ghost on top with mini chocolate chips for eyes!

  3. Step 3

Create a Halloween punch for kid (and parents!) using a punch bowl and stirring a gallon of orange juice, a 2 liter bottle of Sprite or 7-Up or Ginger Ale, and float in a half gallon of orange, green or rainbow sherbet. Make sure you have double of the ingredients, you will need to refill!

  4. Step 4

Have a Halloween pinata filled with goodies including small treats, candy, glow-in-the-dark tattoos or other goodies. Kids love pinatas, and this activity makes for great pictures. Speaking of pictures, the one in this article is of small chocolate donuts hung from a clothesline- kids can't use their hands to eat the donuts; it's a fun activity.

  5. Step 5

Pumpkin painting is another perfect activity for a kids Halloween party. Use washable paints, stickers, glitter, or other craft supplies to allow the kids to decorate small pumpkins.

  6. Step 6

Have separate activity areas set up, so kids can wander from thing to thing. One 'station' could be spider pop making. You'll simply need black pipe cleaners, round lollipops, googly eyes and some glue. Each pop needs three pipe cleaners- simply fold them in half, place the pop in the middle, and tightly twist the pipe cleaners around the pop to create the spider's legs. You can fold the ends of each pipe cleaner to make 'feet'- finish by simply gluing two eyes to each pop.

Tips & Warnings
  • Set no more than a two-hour time on your kids party. They get tired and cranky after that!
  • Take TONS of pictures- there is nothing cuter than kids in Halloween costumes, especially when posing with the pumpkins they just created!
