Things You'll Need:
- match or lighter
- ear candle (also called an ear cone)
-
Step 1
Purchase your ear candles off the Internet or at a health/organic food store. If you have never use an ear candle before, ask a clerk where they are stored. Often the candles are in a basket and you wouldn't even notice them or know what they are, unless someone shows them to you. If your organic store buys them in bulk, they won't be wrapped or come with instructions.
-
Step 2
The ear candle is an approximately 12 inch long cone made from (usually) unbleached cloth and coated with various types of wax. It is not enough wax to drip into your ear canal. Start out using one ear candle. If the problem persist you may need two.
-
Step 3
It is best to have someone hold the ear candle for you. Lay your head to one side, flat on a table, or a couch or bed. You may hold the persons head in you lap.
-
Step 4
Place the ear candle' s smaller end in the affected ear. Let the person position their own candle so it fits snuggly; resting in the outer ear canal.
-
Step 5
Light the larger end of the ear candle with a match or lighter. (Seriously!) The first time we used ear candles we thought it was very funny. It is really quite soothing. The candle will created a low pressure vacuum and pull any water or excess wax from your ear. It is warm and the crackly sound is much like that of a cozy fireplace.
-
Step 6
Hold the candle straight while it burns down about half way. Don't let the candle get too close to your person's hair. Even without an inner ear, water problem, candling keeps your ears healthy and clean all year long.
