Things You'll Need:
- jelly bracelets
- legwarmers
- sweatshirt cut up to reveal one shoulder
- acid wash jeans
- miniskirt
- big hair (plus Aqua Net)
- one sequined glove
- other accessories depending on choice of 80s looks
-
Step 1
Choose which 80s look you'd like to recapture. Will it be the 80s prom queen look? Pop star? Rocker? Punk? Do a Google search on images of the 80s look you are trying to achieve, and jot down what some of the outfits entail.
-
Step 2
Make sure you use the colors of the 80s in putting your outfit together. Hot pink, neon yellow or orange, bright lime green, cherry red, turquoise- these are some of the more popular iconic colors of the 80s- or, of course, simply black or white- both of which were popular in the 1980s.
-
Step 3
It's all about accessories. The 80s are famous for the decade's use of fashion accessory items. Hats, jewelry, hairband or banana clips, fingerless gloves, leggings or legwarmers, RayBan sunglasses, and heck- a keytar, if you can find one. Shoes are important, too- think about military style boots or hot pink pumps or other shoes that recall the 80s.
-
Step 4
Search Halloween costume sites. All of the Halloween costume sites this year are featuring complete 1980s costumes- so if you're intent on making the costume yourself, browse these sites for ideas- or, find one you love and simply cave and buy it- but be sure to add your own accessories to make it unique.
-
Step 5
Consider buying a wig- big hair is probably the most universal style representing the decade of the 1980s. If you have tons of hair, buy tons of Aqua Net- and tease away!
