It's a smelly job but somebody's got to do it. Treating thrush in your horses feet has never been easier. Use this simple homemade remedy to cure the stinky culprit and stomp out thrush for good !

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Betadine Scrub or any generic povidone-iodine
  • Sugar
  • Application brush
  • Mild liquid soap (such as Dove) and warm water
  • Stiff brush
  • Hoof pick
  • Clean dry towel
  1. Step 1

    To make the treatment, mix together enough sugar and Betadine to form a thin paste. Store in an airtight container and label "Thrush Remedy"

  2. Step 2

    With hoof pick, clean out all debris and rocks that may be stuck in the hoof, paying attention to the area around the frog.

  3. Step 3

    Next, wash the bottom of the affected foot with soap and warm water. With a stiff brush scrub gently being sure to remove any excess residue. Pat dry with a clean towel.

  4. Step 4

    Using an application brush, apply the paste directly into the clefts of the frog. Once remedy is applied, put your horse in a clean, dry area such as a dry stall. If he lives outside then be sure to turn him out in a clean, dry field with no mud or puddles.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use this remedy twice daily until you see a improvement in the hoof.
