These days, most people have a computer mouse with their computer. However, there may be times when you do not have access to a computer mouse, or when you have a computer mouse in your possession, but for one reason or another it is not working properly, or you have run out of the right sized batteries needed for your mouse, and/or you do not have access to any substitute computer mice at the moment. When you are without a computer mouse for any of these reasons (or for any other reasons), but you need to do some cutting and pasting of text with your computer documents, you will want to follow the steps provided in this article.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer with a fully functional keyboard
  1. Step 1

The first step is to position your computer cursor in front of the first letter of the text that you seek to highlight for cutting and pasting purposes.

  2. Step 2

The second step is to hold down the “shift” key on your computer. (This is the command that will enable you to highlight the text you are interested in cutting and pasting into a separate document.)

  3. Step 3

The third step is to keep on pressing the shift key while simultaneously using the arrow keys on your keyboard to move your cursor over all of the text that you are interested in highlighting.

  4. Step 4

Regarding step four, the final step in the process, once you have highlighted all of the text you need to cut and paste, press the Edit function in your computer toolbar to bring up your choices. Choose the term “Copy.” Next, open up the document you are planning to paste the highlighted text into and place your cursor where you would like to place the text. Once again, click on the Edit function in your toolbar and choose the term “Paste” to paste the selected text in your new document.

Tips & Warnings
  • Alternatively, here are some helpful “keyboard shortcuts” that may be useful to know whenever you are without your computer mouse: You can “Select All” of the text in a particular document by pressing the Control Key and simultaneously pressing the letter A. In order to cut this particular piece of text that you have “selected all” of, you can press the Control Key and the letter x at the same time. Finally, to paste this particular piece of text into a new document, press the Control key and the letter v at the same time.
