How to Care for Vermeil

Vermeil is a thin additional layer of gold commonly used on a wide range of jewelry to give items extra sheen and durability. While this type of jewelry is somewhat more durable than gold-plated items, the extremely thin gold coating is highly susceptible to scratching. Avoid any damage and preserve your vermeil's original condition with the proper care.

• Cotton balls
• Silver dipping solution
• Small zippered plastic bag

Instructions

1. Use dry cotton balls to gently clean and polish any dust or dry residue on your vermeil jewelry.

2. Apply 1 to 2 drops of silver dipping solution to a cotton ball and gently rub the vermeil if additional cleaning is required. This type of cleanser can usually be found at fine jewelers stores.

3. Remove any vermeil jewelry pieces before bathing or taking a swim, and wear dishwashing gloves while cleaning dishware to protect vermeil rings or bracelets.

4. Stow your vermeil in a zippered plastic bag while you're not wearing the jewelry to keep it safe from nicks and scratches.
