How to Make a Cinderella Dress

Many little girls dream of being a princess. The most popular of these princesses is Cinderella. Buying a Cinderella costume can be expensive. Plus, the materials they use are not very comfortable and they only come in children's sizes. When making your own dress, it can be comfortable, individualized, cost effective and can be made in any size you want. In the movie, Cinderella's dress is silver. However, in the Disney parks and all products, her dress is blue. It's up to you which dress you want to copy.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out a piece of fabric so that it is 3 inches wider than your waist at the top then slants down 45 to 60 inches wide at the bottom and is 36 inches long.

    • 2

Sew the slanted edges of this piece together, right sides facing each other. Leave a 6-inch opening at the top for the zipper.

    • 3

Hem the bottom of the skirt. Sew a gathering stitch at the top of the skirt and gather it until it is the size of your waist.

    • 4

Cut out two rectangles of fabric for the hips of the skirt, each 20 inches wide and 40 inches long. Hem the one of the shorter sides and sew a gathering stitch on the longer sides. Gather the fabric up to the un-hemmed side so that it forms a half-moon shape.

    • 5

Sew a half moon piece to each hip of the skirt.

    • 6

Set the skirt aside and start on the bodice. Cut out two pieces of fabric that are half the width of your bust at the top, plus 2 inches for seam allowance and slants down to a bottom that is half the width of your waist, plus two inches for seam allowance. Add 5-inch straps to the top on each side.

    • 7

Sew the two bodice pieces together, one directly on top of the other, right sides together. Leave an opening of about 4 inches at the bottom. Use this opening to turn the bodice right side out.

    • 8

Cut the back of the bodice all the way open. Line up this cut with the slit at the top of the skirt and sew the two together, leaving the slit open. Sew the zipper in the space that the slit has provided.

    • 9

Cut out two ovals of fabric that are each 6 inches wide and 12 inches long for the sleeves. Sew a gathering stitch along each long side of the ovals. Gather the fabric until it fits around your upper arm.

    • 10

Sew one gathered edge to the arm hole and hem the other gathered edge. Repeat with the other arm hole and sleeve.
