It can be difficult to eliminate the odor of dog urine off concrete floors. Most general household cleaners will do little to get rid of the smell, especially if the urine is on bare (unsealed) concrete. There are products, however, that will permanently eliminate the stain and the smell, if used correctly. Although fresh dog urine stains and smells are easier to remove, even if the urine is old, with the right method and products you should be able to remove it from your concrete floor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Towels
  • Water
  • Nature's Miracle, Urine Off, or a similar enzymatic pet stain cleaner
  • Sponge mop
  • Bucket
  • Fan
  1. Step 1

Place dry towels on the concrete floor to absorb any urine that is still wet. Next, dampen clean towels with water and scrub up as much urine as possible. You'll be using a cleaning product next, but the less urine it has to handle, the faster it will eliminate stain and odor.

  2. Step 2

Saturate the concrete with an enzymatic cleaner, such as Nature's Miracle, Urine Off or a similar pet stain and odor cleaning product. Enzymatic cleaners are better because they breakdown the molecules, eliminating the urine odor completely.

  3. Step 3

Scrub the product into the pores of the concrete floor using a sponge mop. Next, apply more product to the floor.

  4. Step 4

Give the cleaner plenty of time to work, leave it on for at least thirty minutes. Follow instructions on the bottle. If using Nature's Miracle, you'll just need to pour it on and leave it for a while. Other enzymatic cleaners may have different instructions for what to do after you apply the product.

  5. Step 5

Fill a bucket with clean water. Wet the sponge mop in the water and mop up the floor, some cleaners may not require this step.

  6. Step 6

Turn fans on and, if possible, open windows to ventilate the room and dry out the floor. If you detect any remaining odor or stain, reapply the cleaner.

Tips & Warnings
  • These cleaners come in spray bottles and larger bottles for pouring. It'll take less effort to saturate the concrete if you simply get the larger bottles, rather than the spray. For older stains and odors, you should leave the cleaner on longer (an hour at least) and it may take several applications of cleaner.
  • Do not use other cleaners with enzymatic cleaners, doing so reduces their effectiveness.
