Instructions

    • 1

Sand the old window frame. Choose two paint colors that match your room's color scheme. Paint two coats of the first color. When it has dried, use the second color as an overcoat.

    • 2

Use sandpaper to lightly sand around the corners and edges of the old frame to let the first color to peak through. This painting style allows the frame to retain it's old appearance, while fitting in with your room's color pallet.

    • 3

Choose enough family photos to display one in each window pane. Cut them all the same size.

    • 4

Cut pieces of card stock the size of the window panes. Choose one of the paint colors or another color in your room. If you can't decide what color to choose, use black or white.

    • 5

Cut pieces of card stock slightly larger than your photos, all the same color, but different than the larger pieces cut in step 4.

    • 6

Use an all-purpose glue to attach each photo to one of the smaller pieces of card stock, centered, giving it a matted appearance.

    • 7

Center each of the matted photos onto one of the larger card stock and glue.

    • 8

Place a prepared photo in each of the old window panes, facing outwards. Tape them in place on the back of the window frame.

    • 9

Attach picture framing hardware to the back of the old window frame and hang it on your wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • This idea can be used with old black and white photos of earlier times. Or, place small drawings or paintings in the window panes.
