Step 1
Share a passion. Kids love it when their parents are excited about a common hobby. So, the next time your child is building with blocks, painting a picture or trying to make a 2-point jump shot, jump in there and try your hand at it.
-
Step 2
Read to them. Story time before bed, a book after work or a Christmas story by the tree builds happy memories and give you and your child a quiet time to be together.
-
Step 3
Try something new. Little kids think adults know everything, so it amazes children when an adult is trying something for the first time with them. Plus, this takes you out of the authority position for a while, which you both will find refreshing.
-
Step 4
Send a trinket to school. Most children love surprises and kids love to feel special, especially in front of their friends. It's not necessarily the item that's appreciated as much as the feeling that they are thought of.
