Step 1
Depending on what you are promoting, you may want to get custom Tee Shirts or Uniforms. If you own a Deli, or are running an event it is normally a great idea to be able to tell your workers and volunteers from the rest of the crowd. It's also great to give out custom shirts or wear them around town.
-
Step 2
Create a Myspace or Facebook Group and ask people to join or become your friend online. This will also help promotions. I have a friend who runs a DJ business and most of his jobs come from his online promotions and deals that he posts on facebook and myspace.
-
Step 3
Sponsor some local events. A lot of times if there is a big event like a sponsored walk, it is a good idea to maybe set up a booth where you give out free water or towels to people. I would suggest having your logo printed on the cups, towels, water bottles, magnets, key chains, etc. People LOVE free and if you are giving away free items that they will use, make sure you have your logo, website and/or phone number on it
-
Step 4
Classifieds are another great way to reach a decent amount of local potential customers. I have posted many things in classifieds, such as cars i sold, repair services, etc. I have also helped many of my friends with promotions as well.
-
Step 5
If you can afford it, radio commercials. I have a friend who owns his own store front. He mainly sells tobacco products, skateboards, clothing, incense, accessories, has a tattoo parlor, and piercing shop as well. I suggested that he should create a radio promotion and within a year after launching his radio commercial, he doubled his revenue. He now bought the store next door and opened up a Hookah Lounge/Bar/Restaurant.
-
Step 6
Create a Website. Whether it be for an event, a business or anything else. A lot of businesses increase sales, revenue, and gain more exposure when they start a website. This enables them to reach a much larger audience.

on 8/13/2009 Thanks for cool article on how to promote anything successfully. Some of the local businesses and arts organizations in Philly are on Facebook--Philadelphia Book Co., Portside Arts Centers and Greensgrow to name a few--and have also used the Fans program with lots of success. It's so easy to do. 5*
