The hot sun and humidity of summer can cause your makeup to run and smear, leaving you looking a hot mess. Here are some tips to keep everything looking fresh.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Before applying your makeup, make sure that your face is clean and oil free. Wash your face and be sure to apply moisturizer if necessary. Moisturizer with SPF is best to protect your skin and keep it looking healthy.

  2. Step 2

Don't apply too much foundation. You may want to apply extra to make it last, but this is only going to make things worse. Instead, find a long lasting foundation that says extended wear or 24 hour wear on it. Apply just a light layer of this to cover up your problem areas or even skip it and just use concealer and powder.

  3. Step 3

If you need a lot of coverage and are worried that the 24 hour makeup won't keep you covered all day, use a primer. Most of these are a little bit more expensive, but it is worth it. This will definitely keep your foundation in place even with the heat. The primer should be applied after your moisturizer and before your foundation.

  4. Step 4

Use a loose powder to set your foundation in place. The powder will hold your foundation and keep you from shining. Carry your powder and brush with you for touch ups if necessary.

  5. Step 5

Brush a little bit of bronzer over your face where the sun would normally hit you to give a natural looking summer glow.

  6. Step 6

Oil blotting sheets are great for controlling oil and sweat and they won't mess up your makeup. Even better, they don't require a mirror and won't break your skin out.

  7. Step 7

When it comes to eye and lip makeup, keep things light. For eye liner, opt for a waterproof liquid version. The liquid will not smear as much as the pencil so you won't have to worry about touching up your makeup every hour. Avoid creamy eye shadows, lip liner, and thick lipsticks.
