How to Have a Happy Family

A happier family is great to come home to.

Home may be where the heart is, but it's even more important that your family's hearts are happy. Regardless of the challenges each family member may face, you will all be family for the rest of your lives -- so you might as well put some effort into making your family relationships as healthy and happy as possible.

1. Know who you are as a family by first setting an example with your marriage/partnership, displaying loyalty, love, commitment and values. Knowing your family values is important to help you weather life's challenges. Don't worry about what other families do or say -- just do what is right for your own family. Keep your values and make decisions as a family. Listen to what your children have to say to help them feel valued and important in your family unit.

2. Keep the lines of communication open between all family members, and if you have an argument, learn how to resolve it and bounce back from it. Every family goes through its ups and downs, but happy families are empowered with the resiliency to face life's challenges and stay strong together. Stay with your family's routines and rituals that help you get through tough times faster.

3. Relax and have fun together. Share meals with each other on a regular basis. Having time to spend as a family just relaxing, talking or eating is bonding time. It's important to spend lots of quality time together. Children and adults need this to form closer and stronger relationships with each other.

4. Lean on each other and support each other through every challenging experience. When you need support or advice, it's important to turn to your family first. Everyone needs people in their lives who care for them and are there for them no matter what. Family includes extended family, so make sure you lean on them too.
