How to Take a Clarinet Apart

Once you're done playing, it's time to put the clarinet away. Follow these steps to keep your clarinet in working order for years to come.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
     

    Unscrew this strap and remove the reed. Be careful not to chip the reed and put it into a case.

  2. Step 2
     

    Remove the mouth piece by twisting and pulling it.

  3. Step 3

    Insert the mouthpiece brush into the mouthpiece and twist to clean it. The mouthpiece will sometimes need a little extra cleaning with a damp rag.

  4. Step 4

    Put the mouthpiece into the mouthpiece cover, and place it in the case like this.

  5. Step 5

    Drop the weight on the end of the spit rag string into the top of the clarinet. Pull the weight out the bottom to pull the rag though the whole clarinet.

  6. Step 6
     

    Continue twisting apart the different sections of the clarinet one at a time and lay them in the case like this. There should be an indent in the case that fits each piece.
