How to Make a Pleated Bedskirt
Rather than spending a ton of money on specialty bedding just to get the effect you desire, consider sewing the bedding, like the bedskirt, yourself. The hardest part of making a pleated bedskirt is deciding on the fabric to use. Choose a fabric that will be easy to work with and will be easy to clean. Silk, wool, plastic or fabrics that have intricate or raised designs are not a good choice. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the drop or the length from the top of the bed springs down to the floor. The standard length is 15 inches.
-
2
Calculate the amount of fabric to purchase. Measure the length and width of the bed springs. Decide on how many pleats you desire and the size of the pleats. For each 6-inch pleat, add 12 inches. Add 2 lengths and 1 width together, then add the inches from the pleats. Add 6 inches for seams and a little extra. Divided the total number by 36, which is the number of inches in 1 yard.

Hem three sides of the bedskirt first. Turn up a 1/4-inch section of fabric and press. Turn up another 1/2 inch of fabric and press again. Sew the hem in place using a straight stitch or a zig-zag stitch. Start and finish the seam by reinforcing the stitching.

4
Create a template for the pleats from a thin piece of cardboard. Estimate where the corner of the bed is located and start setting pleats there. Fold the fabric over the template from both sides with fabric meeting in the center, press, then pin in place. It may be helpful to baste the pleats before sewing. Continue setting the pleats. Sew pleats in place using a straight stitch.

5
Sew the finished bedskirt to a fitted bed sheet to hold it place.
