This article will tell you how to grow moonflowers in your garden. Monnflowers are moderately easy to grow. They look beautiful in your garden as they open up in the evenings. These flowers grow vines which means they need to grow on a trellis.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Moonflower seeds
  • Water
  • Sun
  • Trellis
  • Poor to high quality soil

    Planting Moonflowers.
    Moonflowers are not easily transplanted, and should stay in only one or two places in it's life. Put a trellis near the plant so the vines can grow up it. Moonflowers can get up to 18 feet tall, you can trim the vines to make it shorter, but you must trim them before it blooms.

    Caring for moonflowers.
    Moonflowers should be watered only once a day. They need sun in the afternoons to make bigger blooms. At least 2 or 3 hours of sun in the afternoon should do it.

  3. Step 3

    Blooms.
    Moonflowers have 4 inch across blooms. The blooms will fall off, but will keep growing more for a lifetime flower. I hope you enjoy growing your moonflower!

  • Keep soil evenly moist
  • Water once a day
  • At least 2-3 hours of sun in the afternoon
  • Annual
  • Blooms all summer
  • 14 days to germinate
  • 60-90 days to bloom
  • 12-18 feet tall!
  • SOW seeds in average soil
  • SOW six inches apart
  • Fragrant
  • Don't overwater, it can cause little or no blooms
  • Try not to give it to much sunlight

on 7/19/2009 I didn't know they would climb like a vine. I have moonflowers all over out here and sometimes they get up to 6' tall as a big bush. Very nice! And they seed like crazy and those seeds can be used to trade for other seeds/flowers/plants to further your garden. Love em'! I'm going to set up some trellises and give that a shot.
