How to Use Unlocked GSM Phones

There are many advantages to having an unlocked GSM phone. The biggest is that you can use your phone with many different providers in many different nations. All you need is a SIM card of that provider.

Things You'll Need

• Unlocked GSM phone
• Active SIM card

Instructions

1. Open the part of your phone housing the SIM card. This is often (but not always) in the same compartment as the battery. It may also be in the same compartment as any expansion cards or it may exist in its own slot.

2. Insert a working SIM card. Close the compartment housing the SIM card.

3. Turn your phone on. Dial the number you wish to call. You may also access other features on your phone by following the instructions for that specific phone.

Tips & Warnings

• Unlocking a GSM phone may void your service warranty. There may also be penalties imposed by your cell phone service provider if they find out (check your contract for details).
