Think about the primary components of a meal: protein, vegetables and a carbohydrate. Look at what is in your refrigerator and pantry or review your grocery list.

List 2-3 options for each component that your family likes, excluding any items that go against dietary restrictions. Choose basic items that don't take more than an hour to prepare and cook. For example, you may want to stay away from a meat that you normally marinate for 2-3 hours.

Choose one component for each group that you think will complement each other. Be sure you have the necessary seasonings or accompaniments that you need to prepare the meal.
