How to Fight XT-002 Deconstructor on Hard Mode in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

XT-002 is one of the earliest fights in Ulduar, and one of the simplest. He is also one of the easiest bosses to kill on Hard Mode, and yields some stupendous loot if you can manage to kill him. If you’re up for a challenge, have a High-DPS group and some good healers, why not give it a shot?

Instructions

1. Bring the right group. Having the right group and class composition is essential. See our article on Surviving Ulduar for more details. As a good rule: if you can kill all the bosses up to Mimiron, your group has the chops to kill XT-002 on Hard Mode.

2. Know the fight. XT-002 only has a few gimmicks. He has Light Bomb, Gravity Bomb, robot friends and Tantrum. Stack up on either side of the Scrapyard, with the tank a little ways away. Establish two directions (typically north/south) for when people get bombs. If you get the Light Bomb, run one way. If you get the Gravity Bomb, run the other way. Ranged DPS will kill any robots that come to help before they get to the raid. Healers need to throw extra heals during a Tantrum, as everyone takes AoE damage.

3. Destroy the Heart. XT-002 will drop his heart out at around 75-80% health. The minute you see it, blast the living daylights out of it. XT takes double damage from any damage dealt to the heart. The heart is also the key to starting Hard Mode. If you can destroy the Heart before it gets sucked back into XT, you have activated Hard Mode. His health resets (and gets a large boost) as does his damage. Don't worry though: XT will not attack at all during a Heart Phase.

4. Immediately destroy any Bomb Bots or Pummelers that spawn. This typically only happens immediately after XT goes into Hard Mode. Have ranged focus on the Bomb Bots and have your Melee focus on the Pummelers, then start in on XT again. XT only drops his heart once, so don’t hold back; blast him with everything you’ve got! Use your Cooldowns early and often for maximum damage.

5. Practice. Killing XT on Hard Mode the first time round is extremely difficult. The key to winning the fight is perfect execution. If everyone heals their best, puts out their best damage and keeps the bombs away from the raid, the fight is quite simple. If everyone does their best and stays alert, you’ll be enjoying Emblems of Conquest and sweet loot in less time than you think.
