How to Change From iTunes to Windows Media Player

In order to add songs from your computer to an iPod, you will need to use the iTunes software program. You may have even purchased songs from iTunes in order to add those files to your iPod. If you have purchased a different MP3 player or you no longer wish to use iTunes, you might want to change from iTunes to Windows Media Player. In order to make the switch, all you need to do is convert iTunes songs to the proper format.

Instructions

    • 1

Open iTunes and double-click any of the albums in iTunes that you wish to change from iTunes to Windows Media Player. Once you do this, a list of the songs on that album will appear in the middle of iTunes.

    • 2

Right-click on any of the songs that you wish to change from iTunes to Windows Media Player.

    • 3

Choose "Create MP3 Version." An MP3 version of that particular iTunes file will then be created.

    • 4

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for every song you wish to change from iTunes to Windows Media Player.

    • 5

      Open Windows Media Player.

    • 6

Click "File." Select "Add to Library." A window will open.

    • 7

Select "Add." Then, search for the iTunes folder located on your computer. Select that folder and click "OK."

    • 8

Click "OK" and the MP3 files that you made in iTunes will be added to the Windows Media Player library. You will then be able to listen to those files in Windows Media Player and add those songs to an MP3 player by using Windows Media Player.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will still need to use iTunes in order to add songs to your iPod as Windows Media Player does not sync with iPods.
