How to Install Schlage Locks

- Drill
- Door knob installation kit
- Pencil
- Tape measure
- Hammer
- Block of wood
- Screwdriver
- Wood chisel

Measure and mark the hole placement on the door. Install the handset hole saw from the door knob installation kit into a drill. Place the hole saw drill guide from the door installation kit onto the door. Insert the hole saw into the guide and drill the hole through the door. Installation kits are available for both wood and metal doors.

Leave the hole saw guide in place on the door. Replace the handset hole saw with the latch hole saw from the door knob installation kit. Drill the hole in the side of the door using the hole saw guide.

Place the door latch assembly into the hole in the side of the door. Seat the door latch into the door by tapping it with a block of wood and a hammer.

Place the locking side of the handset through the holes in the door latch assembly. Insert the mounting screws into the holes on the locking side of the handset. Tighten the mounting screws with a screwdriver.

Mark the door jamb where the catch plate needs to be installed. Cut a recess into the door jamb so the catch plate will sit flush with the door jamb. Use the door latch hole saw and a wood chisel to cut a hole into the door jamb to accommodate the door latch.

Place the catch plate into the recessed area and mount it with screws. Open and close the door to test the new handset. Make adjustments as needed. If the handset is installed correctly, there will be no need for adjustments.
