The prostate is a gland in males that produces semen. It is located internally, below the bladder and surrounds the urethra. Enlargement of the prostate gland is common. The enlargement places pressure on the urethra and makes urinating difficult. To screen for prostate enlargement and check for tumors in the gland, men need simple prostate exams. Evaluating an enlarged prostate is a multiple step exam.
