Natasha beads are a fun way to use up scraps of polymer clay. By pressing pieces of clay together, and with a few twists and turns, you can create beads with intricate designs. These beads are not complicated to make; those who are new to working with polymer clay can make the Natasha bead one of their first projects.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Polymer clay, two colors
  • Needle tool
  • Brayer
  1. Step 1

Select two colors of clay for your Natasha beads and cut a piece from each block.

  2. Step 2

Knead one piece of clay in your hands until it feels soft and malleable. Repeat this process for the other piece.

  3. Step 3

Form a cylinder with one piece of clay. Make your cylinder about 2 inches long with a diameter of about 1 inch. Flatten the other piece of clay to a thickness of about ¼ inch.

  4. Step 4

Wrap the flat piece of clay completely around the cylinder. Twist the cylinder about five times. This forms a pattern with the two colors within the cylinder.

  5. Step 5

Use your fingers to shape the cylinder into a rectangular form. Stand the rectangular clay on one short end and slice it, lengthwise, into four pieces.

  6. Step 6

Peel one of the pieces back carefully. Turn it around and then upside down and put it back into its original position. The side showing the pattern formed by the two colors of clay should be on the outside of the bead.

  7. Step 7

Repeat step 6 for the remaining pieces.

  8. Step 8

Align the edges of the four pieces, as well as the patterns on the pieces. Blend the seams together with your fingers or by rolling over it with a needle tool.

  9. Step 9

Place the bead on a flat surface. Roll over each side with a brayer to shape the bead into a square or rectangle.

  10. Step 10

Repeat the steps above to create as many beads as you wish. Place the beads on a flat baking tray and bake them according to the instructions on the clay packaging.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid holding the clay for more than five minutes at a time. The heat from your hands will make the clay too soft to work with if you hold it for long periods.
